Talan Products is a High Volume Metal Stamping
Manufacturer
Steve Peplin is the CEO of Talan Products, a Cleveland-based
contract manufacturer specializing in high volume metal
stamping.
Peplin founded Talan Products in
1986 with an initial capitalization of just $2100. Over 20
years later, Talan is still doing business with its founding
customer (its second, third and fourth customer,
also).
Today, Talan has annual revenues
over $25 million and employees 60 in the City of Cleveland
proper. Ownership of Talan was consolidated in 1996 to include
other partners. Talan has won numerous local and national
awards for growth and manufacturing excellence. Talan uses
progressive management concepts and programs to achieve
continued success in an industry where U.S. manufacturers have
been struggling mightily with low-cost foreign
competition.
Peplin's non-traditional
preparation for this role included attending the Cleveland
Urban Learning Community (a progressive non-structured
experimental high school), and the University of Wyoming. A
host of adventure jobs during his youth (oilfield roughneck,
cowboy, logger) prepared him well for the rigors of executive
leadership and have imbued him with a deeper-than-typical
understanding of the manufacturing floor-level employee's
psyche.
Peplin lives with his long time
partner, Cathy Hattenbach, in Chagrin Falls, and has an adult
son, Chris. Peplin's "best buddy" is Bernie, a 135-pound
Bernese mountain dog who roams the Talan office complex in
search of treats and hugs, if not managerial
insights.
